The historic centre of the city of Strasbourg is unique in more ways than one. Outcome of several centuries of construction culminating with the erection of its spire in 1439, the Cathedral Notre Dame de Strasbourg is by far the most striking work of the city. At 142 metres high, it was the tallest building in the world from the 17th to the 19th centuries. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, celebrated across the globe, it would have certainly deserved to be elevated to the rank of eighth wonder of the world. It fascinates young and old alike as much by its architectural style as the quality of its stained glass, Grand Orgue, Pulpit, the Pillar of Angels and its famous Astronomical Clock...

Its name comes from German and literally means the New City, but it is also called the German Quarter or the Jewish Quarter. The Neustadt is full of enigmas and curiosities that provide us with many opportunities for exploration or laid-back strolls. Let yourself be intoxicated by: the unique style of Art Nouveau, the Egyptian House, Place de la République with its Garden surrounded by the Imperial Palace, the National Library, the Theater and the Prefecture, not to mention the Great Synagogue, St. Paul’s Church and the Palais universitaire.

The Orangerie is the oldest and largest park in Strasbourg. You will indulge in its natural and green setting: a mini farm, a zoo, the famous Pavillon Joséphine (named after the Empress of France), not to mention the storks of Alsace, before setting out to discover the European quarter. Epicenter of the European infrastructure after Brussels, Strasbourg is indeed the host of several organisations including the Council of Europe – organisation gathering 47 Member States! –, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament.
